Wheel of Future
- a foresight activity -
Wheel of Future, as presented here, is an adaptation after the activity with the
same name, part of the “Are You Ready for the Future?” manual, part of the project
“Post-Pandemic Narratives 2040 – Artifacts from the Future of Truth” project
implemented by Monomyths Association in partnership with Young Iniative Association
with the financial support of the Active Citizens Fund Romania, programme funded by
Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA Grants 2014-2021.

Number of participants – any number up to 40. More participants does not allow fruitful
discussions. Best number, based on the experience is between 15 to 20.
Materials needed – Wheel of Future worksheets adapted to the topic, markers, room
which allow to form teams and to group separately.
Stage 1 – short intro in the method (5 - 10 min.) – what is the purpose, which are the
aims etc.
Recommendation for facilitators – Is better to make the intro in plenary and to make sure
that everyone understood what’s the task, topic etc.
Stage 2 – forming groups of 3 to 5 participants (depending of the size of the big group)
and sharing the worksheets. (5 min.)
Stage 3 – working in groups (20 to 30 min., according to the time have at disposal and to
the group)
Recommendation for facilitators – navigate between the teams and encourage them to
widen the areas explored.
Stage 4 – presenting in plenary the outcomes of the discussions and debates (timing
flexible, according to the availability, involvement of the participants etc.). There are
many ways to do it – each team presenting all the domains, or, one by one each team will
tackle one domain and the others just add if they have something different.
Recommendation for facilitators – make sure that every voice is heard, but do not leave
the participants to stay too much on a single topic. A holistic approach, with connections
between domains is preferable.
Stage 5 – debriefing (timing depends of the involvement of the group and to the
availability).
Recommendation for facilitators – ask targeted questions such as: how was the method,
how do you feel now, what do you think can be improved etc.
